An area of lakes and mountains that has the nickname “the granite state” is New Hampshire, located in the northeastern part of the United States. This state was the first to proclaim its secession from the British authorities, but even to this day the English topographical names remind of the history of New Hampshire, which is one of the main reasons why travelers want to get here. The second reason is the stunning natural beauty, completely different at different times of the year.

The culinary traditions of the New England region are embodied in the dishes offered throughout the state of New Hampshire. Eat game dishes and savor seafood. Lobster casserole is a favorite. And sweet tooths won’t be bored! The bakeries’ counters are filled with sweets and appetizing pastries. Unique sweets await you at the Stella factory in Bedford. Here they make salted caramel toffee with almond butter. Nearby is an old-fashioned chocolate factory – Van Otis Chocolates.

The most important paragraph in New Hampshire’s gastronomic book is cheeses and wines. Make an itinerary to tour the wineries and farms. There are more than twenty vineyards located throughout the state, each of which offers a beverage tasting. Visit Moonlight Meadery, Fulcino Family Winery, La Belle Winery – at each location you can savor not only the wine, but also the stronger liqueurs and portos that are made according to the family recipe. Here you can also touch on history and learn curious facts about the winemaker’s craft. Close to Guildford, there is the Stone Gate Vineyard. Here they prepare drinks from grapes grown in cold conditions. Brookford Farm is the place to learn about cheddar, camembert, brie and the famous Brookford Quark cheese.

New Hampshire is relatively small and has an enviable proximity to major cities in the States. Close proximity to natural beauty is another plus to New Hampshire’s credit. In the center of the state is the White Mountain National Wildlife Refuge. The legendary mountain Washington, whose height reaches almost two thousand meters, and Monadnock Peak, which is almost a kilometer high, give travelers the opportunity to go on an adventure along winding trails. Water bodies within the state – Winnipesaukee, Winnisquam, Squam, Newfound – how long has it been since you’ve had a lakeside picnic? New Hampshire is definitely becoming a great option for tourists tired of the stone jungle.

One of the most interesting cities in the state of New Hampshire is Portsmouth. Are you a history buff? This is definitely the place for you. The city was the center of military and industrial shipbuilding since the end of the eighteenth century, which is still evidenced by the objects located here. The town’s architecture is remarkable: thanks to the efforts of the authorities, many houses from two centuries ago have been restored.

Concord, like Portsmouth, will also be interesting for lovers of historical routes. Visit the main New Hampshire Capitol building, which was designed in the early nineteenth century and is the oldest structure of its kind. It has been remodeled twice, adding new floors and sections. There is also the famous Eagle Hotel in Concord, where United States presidents and stars once stayed.

To get to New Hampshire by air, use Portsmouth International Airport or Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. The second is especially convenient if the purpose of your trip is to visit a ski lodge or beach vacation: it is a half-hour drive from the most famous resorts. Unfortunately, there are not direct flights to Portsmouth from every country in the world. If there is no direct flight from the country of departure, choose a connection in New York or Boston. From these two cities you can take an intercity bus to New Hampshire, and you can get off not only in Portsmouth, but also at the lakes or White Mountain Park.

Connecticut is the southernmost part of the six New England states and one of the original thirteen colonies. The Dutch were the first Europeans to settle in the area of today’s Hartford, followed by English from Plymouth, a Massachusetts colony, seeking to establish a trading position for the lucrative bean skins. New Haven’s four-mile-wide harbor soon turned it into one of the busiest ports in the Northeast, providing access to markets that helped its growing manufacturing industry. New Haven became an early center of education with the founding of Yale University.

Mystic Seaport

Mystic Seaport recreates a historic seaport village that is part of one of the most prominent maritime museums in the United States. A significant part of the museum is its outstanding collection of floating craft, including the world’s last remaining wooden whaling ship, the Charles W. Morgan (1841). Other historic ships depicted are the Joseph Conrad, the schooner L.A. Dunton, and various steamers. The buildings on the 19-acre base are not only the homes and shops of the small village, but also the gardeners, shipbuilders, and others who provided the ships. Several museums have displays of ships, maritime art, shipping history, and ship models.

Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History

The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History is one of the premier destinations for guests of Yale University. Its comprehensive collections include a range of topics, from New England dinosaurs and birds to ancient monuments from Greece and Rome and indigenous arts. Gillette Castle State Park

The unique Gillette Castle is located on a 184-acre estate in East Haddam, home to the 1919 home of William Hooker Gillette, known as the actor who played the original Sherlock Holmes. The house appears to be a medieval fortress on the outside, while the interior features embroidered woodwork and unique features designed by Gillett himself, including wooden door latches and light switches. The walking paths he designed through the estate are just as unusual, with wooden platforms and arched bridges.

In spring, summer, and fall, you can cross the Connecticut River from Chester on the Hadleyme Ferry, with beautiful views as you walk to the castle.

After wandering and temporary buildings, it finally found its own place in the Back Bay area, taking the name “New England Museum of Natural History,” there it remained until World War II.

Boston, one of the oldest cities in the United States, is home to many interesting museums.

One of them is the Museum of Fine Arts, which was created thanks to the residents of the city. They lived with the dream of making Boston a world cultural center. It takes a few days to explore the city; you can stay in one of the hotels in Boston.

History of the Museum of Fine Arts

The museum was founded in 1870 on the basis of the Ateneum. At first, the city library was located here, later the territory began to host art exhibitions. Since the activities of the Ateneum were restricted, a group of city residents proposed to establish an art center and in 1870 the foundation “Museum of Fine Arts” was founded, and so began the creation of this center.

A plot of land in the southern part of the Copley Square site was allocated for the construction of the museum, and in 1876 the western wing of the institution was completed and opened to the public. In 1809, work on the main building was completed and its grounds also welcomed their first guests. By that time, the collection of the institution already had a lot of exhibits, and over the years their number was constantly increasing, delighting visitors with new creations of famous masters.

At the beginning of the 20th century, work began on the erection of a new building, located not far from the old structure and representing a huge building in the style of neoclassicism. Its author was the architect Lowell. The old structure was demolished and the Copley Plaza Hotel was built in its place.

The doors of the new museum opened in 1909, attracting many tourists, but the construction and decoration work continued for another six years and was completed by 1925. Over the years, several additions were made to the museum, and in 1981, the west wing was added, the work was led by architect Ray. This structure is characterized by a modern design, it combines the main building and granite from the same quarry.

Today, more than 1 million works of masters of fine and applied arts are exhibited within the walls of the museum. The institution owes its huge collection to the entrepreneurs and scientists of the city, it was they who bought and brought here interesting works. There is a unique collection of paintings by Millet, paintings by Claude Monet and other, no less famous artists are presented in the walls of the museum.

When visiting museums in Boston, do not forget to take time to visit the Museum of Science, which presents a huge number of exhibits, 500 of which are interactive, as well as a planetarium and the largest in the U.S. IMAX theater.
