Wakefield Repertory Youth Theatre Begins Rehearsals for Wizard of Oz

WAKEFIELD, MA: Rehearsals are in full swing for Wakefield Repertory Youth Theatre’s production of the beloved play, The Wizard of Oz. Through the hard work and dedication from the talented cast, the characters from Munchkinland to Emerald City come alive in a fresh, new light.

The Wizard of Oz tells a story about Dorothy and her search to find home after being blown away from Kansas to Oz. Soon accompanied by the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, these characters face trouble with the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys. Some of the show stopping numbers include “Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain” and “Merry Old Land of Oz.”

The Wakefield Repertory Youth Theatre is a five week program for students entering grade five to entering grade nine. The program is designed to teach children about the joy of theater through workshops while putting together an extravagant musical theater production.

With Jenn MacRobbie serving as the Program Coordinator, WRYT’s production is directed by Jeff Bellin, musically directed by Katrina Faulstich, choreographed by Keriann Skerry, stage managed by Cam Cronin with Caroline Kelly as the Production Manager. The student volunteers include Anthony Sposito, Mark Pampanin, Jenn Tiedmann, and Nate Faro.

The Wizard of Oz will be presented on Thursday, August 7 at 7:30pm, Friday, August 8 at 7:30pm, and Saturday August 9 at 7:30pm. A matinee performance will be held on Friday, August 8 at 10:00am. Performances will be held at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Auditorium, 350 Lynn Fells Parkway in Melrose, MA. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets are available online at www.wakefieldrep.org or by calling 781-245-1173. Discounts are available for groups of ten and WRT members.
