Commonwealth Shakespeare Company Announces Tour of the Parks: Free Family Performances

BOSTON & QUINCY, MA: Commonwealth Shakespeare Company Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler today announced that the Company will take to the parks this summer, with Shakespeare on Love, in Boston, Dorchester and Quincy. This 55-minute piece blends speeches, sonnets, scenes & songs inspired by Shakespeare on the subject of love. This show is appropriate for the whole family, and people are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy a whimsical look at love.

The Tour of the Parks is a companion piece to CSC’s Summer 2009 Mainstage production. The Comedy of Errors will be performed July 31—Aug. 16 outdoors at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common, in partnership with the City of Boston and Mayor Menino. The program, which has become a beloved civic institution, will draw an estimated 75,000 people over 15 performances. Performances take place Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m., weather permitting. Press night will be Aug. 5 at 8 p.m.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, best known for its annual free performances on Boston Common, is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the works of William Shakespeare in vital and contemporary productions to the people of Boston.
