Children's Theater, Guitar Hero, Live Music & More on Summer Roster at Majestic Theater
WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA: Danny Eaton, producing
director of the Theater Project in West Springfield, has announced the summer
lineup of concerts, competitions, a special summer play and events at the
Majestic Theater. Tickets for all concerts are currently on sale at the box
office at 131 Elm Street in West Springfield, or may be purchased by calling
(413) 747-7797.
The Majestic Theater Café will be open one hour before, during intermission, and
one hour after each performance, and will feature a variety of items on its
summer menu, as well as beer, wine and soda.
In addition to the concert series, the Majestic will also host its popular Open
Mic Nights, on Tuesdays in July and August. Singers, musicians, comedians,
magicians and other performers must call the Majestic Theater at (413) 747-7797
to book a spot during one of the weekly shows. Audience members will be able to
vote for their favorite performers. Weekly prizes ($100 for first place, $75 for
second place and $50 for third) will be awarded to the acts that earn the most
ballots, then each top act will face off for grand prizes, and higher payoffs,
at the Grand Finale Show on August 19. Tickets will be $5 for the regular Open
Mic Nights.
A one-night contest based on the hugely popular Guitar Hero video game comes to
the Majestic on Wednesday, July 16. Twenty-four players will compete using the
Guitar Hero game setup at the theater. Bonus points will be awarded by the
audience for showmanship, and after a first evaluation round, contenders will be
split into beginner, intermediate or advanced categories to continue the
competition. Player fee/admission is $3, and participants are encouraged to call
the Majestic to make reservations.
Charades For Cash will return for two nights; Wednesday, June 25 and Wednesday,
July 23. In this competition, up to 20 players from the audience act out a clue
for a word or phrase for other audience members to guess. The words and phrases
are offered by the audience members, and the player that successfully gets the
audience to guess the answer the fastest through three rounds of play wins $50
(first place), $30 (second place) or $20 (third place). General admission for
Charades for Cash is $5.
The Majestic will also present “Rounding Third,” a comedy that looks at the
passion, joy and pain that parents experience when their children compete in
anything from sports to spelling bees to talent shows. The play focuses on two
Little League baseball coaches who wrestle with whether to shield kids from the
pressure of competition or prepare them for a ferociously competitive world by
molding them to be tough enough to win. Tickets are $16 & $18.
The Majestic will also stage a summer lineup of children’s theater. “Androcles
and the Lion,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Godspell Jr.” will be presented in
July and August. Admission is $7 for “Androcles” and “Alice,” and $9 for “Godspell
Jr.”
