Free Outdoor Concerts at The Clark This Summer

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA: Bring family and friends, picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs to the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute's expansive lawn to enjoy the free outdoor concert series, held on Tuesday evenings at 6
pm in July. Barbeque fare will be available for purchase and the galleries remain open until 6 pm on concert evenings. In the event of rain, concerts will be held in the auditorium. Concert admission is free.

July 7 - The Doerfels
Take two parents and ten kids, put them in a forty-foot bus, and send them on the road for three years playing music. What do you get? The Doerfels, an amazing twelve-member family bluegrass band, who've wowed
audiences and impressed critics up and down the East Coast to Canada. What makes them remarkable is their average age of fifteen. While the core band consists of the older children, the whole family joins in on
certain songs and adds humor to the act, making it entertaining for all ages. Those who like country, gospel, and bluegrass, interspersed with a touch of blues, jazz, swing, and classical, won't want to miss this
outstanding, young band.

July 14 - Annie & the Hedonists
This eclectic acoustic group from upstate New York offers something for everyone. Annie & the Hedonists is a band with tight harmonies, performing an eclectic mix of acoustic folk, torchy blues, standards, bluegrass, gospel, and early jazz. Metroland named Annie & the Hedonists 2008's "Best Acoustic Band." The group's Clark performance will feature special guest Peter Davis on clarinet, banjo, and piano.

July 21 - The Equalites
The Equalites, a six-piece reggae, rock, roots, dub, ska, and R&B band, is fronted by the strong, soulful vocals of lead guitarist David Boatwright and the sultry, haunting melodies of accompanying lead vocalist Cinamon Blair. The Equalites deliver a performance like no other anywhere within the reggae genre. Musical influences include Bob Marley and the Wailers, Dennis Brown, John Holt, Delroy Wilson, Sam Cooke, Me'shell Ndegeocello, The Grateful Dead, and lover's rock in addition to classic rhythm and blues from the 1950s and '60s. They deliver a great evening of music that moves people to dance and sing along.

July 28 - The Primate Fiasco
The Primate Fiasco, a five-piece band from Northampton, MA, plays a high-energy mixture of Dixieland jazz, funk, rock, swing, and everything in between. With tuba, banjo, clarinet, trumpet, drums, and vocal harmony, it's the instrumentation of a New Orleans early jazz band with modern influences. Dance contests and audience participation rule their family-friendly performances.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May.
