Young Actors Take Center Stage at Trinity's Summer Institute

PROVIDENCE, RI:  For the fourth summer, Trinity Rep will open its doors for boys and girls in grades 5-12 to explore a world of creativity and theater under the instruction of Rhode Island’s most knowledgeable theater professionals with the Young Actors Summer Institute. The Summer Institute offers students a challenging five weeks of study in the fields of studying acting, playwriting, dance and much more. The Summer Institute runs from June 30 to August 3, and will work and perform in the state-of-the-art Pell Chafee Performance Center (home to the Brown/Trinity Rep Consortium), located at 87 Empire St., Providence. Trinity Rep’s Young Actors Summer Institute provides kids and teens with a hands-on experience, exposing students to a wide range of topics taught by Artistic Director, Curt Columbus and members of Trinity’s resident acting company, Mauro Hantman, Fred Sullivan, Jr., Rachael Warren, and Joe Wilson, Jr. This wide range of talent draws from years of experience as theater professionals on and offstage, including Broadway and Film and Television credits.

Students at Trinity’s Young Actors Summer Institute will have the opportunity to pick and choose from a wide array of electives including: Playwriting, Poetry, Painting and Drawing, Puppetry, Voice, Movement, Improv, Hip Hop Dance, Shakespeare and more. The Summer Institute culminates with a three days of final performances for parents and guests on the Trinity Rep stage.

The Summer Institute meets Monday through Friday with half, full, or extended day options. Regular, full day enrollment meets from 9:00am–4:30pm with an enrollment fee of $1400. Returning students from last season's classes are offered a discounted rate of $1250. There is also half-day option being offered, meeting from 9am–12pm for $700. Extended day enrollment meets from 7:30am–6pm throughout the run of the camp for an additional $275 fee. There are a limited number of scholarships available. Since its founding in 1964, Trinity Repertory Company has been one of the most respected regional theaters in the country. Trinity Rep presents a balance of world premiere, contemporary, and classic works, including six subscription productions, and an annual production of A Christmas Carol, for an estimated annual audience of 160,000. In its 42-year history, the theater has produced 52 world premieres, mounted national and international tours, and, through its graduate-level theater arts conservatory, trained hundreds of new actors and directors. This season marks the 40th Anniversary of Project Discovery, Trinity Rep's pioneering educational outreach program Launched in 1966, the program introduces over 30,000 Rhode Island and Massachusetts students a year to live theater. The Brown University/Trinity Rep Consortium offers professional training for actors and directors in a three-year MFA program. Since 1973, Trinity Rep's home has been the Lederer Theater Center, a historic landmark built as the Majestic Theatre in 1917.
